Sylvia Clara (Rosenberg) Egleston, 82, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026. “Sylvi” was born on December 31, 1943 in Santiago de Chile to Gustav Rosenberg and Erna Goldstein originally from Berlin, Germany. Her parents migrated overseas as part of the diaspora of Jews fleeing the onset of WWII to start a new life in a foreign land. She and her younger sister, Eli, were raised in a classic German household where there was a strong appreciation of family in a tight-knit community. Sylvi spoke three languages fluently. She spoke German at home, Spanish in school, and learned English attending the American school. In high school, she trained to be a professional secretary where she excelled and worked for IBEC which continues today as a professional development school. In 1967, she met her future husband, David, an American who was working as a contractor in Chile. They quickly fell in love and were married in Santiago. Shortly thereafter, they moved to the U.S., living in Hackensack before buying a house and settling in New Milford, NJ. Sylvi was an avid cook and entertainer, and was a magnet for drawing friends for delicious meals and her famous flan. She also enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers and, of course, all things pretty. Sylvi was a hard worker and natural-born saleswoman, spending many years selling cosmetics. What stands out most was her incredible kindness, generosity, and above all, love for her family. She was also a very loyal friend. Sylvi was always interested and willing to take the time to learn about whatever successes or challenges one was experiencing in their lives. She would listen to everyone and find ways to encourage in any way she could. She is survived by her devoted husband, David; their beloved children Andrew (Julie) Egleston and Michael (Diane) Egleston; cherished grandchildren Molly, Brady, Erica and Nate; loving sister, Eli, and nieces Vivian, Pamela and Daniela.
