Phyllis Laura Lobenberg

Phyllis Laura Lobenberg, of the Bronx, New York, passed away on September 4, 2026, at the age of 73, after a long battle with cancer.

Born in New York City on July 5, 1953, to the late Lilyan and Benjamin Lobenberg, Phyllis was a true New Yorker through and through. Aside from living in Queens for five years, she proudly spent the rest of her life in the Bronx. She attended P.S. 7, Riverdale Junior High School 141, and Walton High School for Girls, before going on to graduate from the City College of New York (CCNY) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Though educated to teach, Phyllis brought her sharp intellect, focus, and drive to the world of advertising. She spent a distinguished career of over 25 years as a media buyer with the international marketing and public relations firm Ogilvy & Mather, where her talent and dedication propelled her to the role of Vice President—earning the lasting respect and admiration of colleagues throughout the industry.

Beyond her professional achievements, Phyllis embraced life with energy, warmth, and fun. In her younger years, she was an enthusiastic athlete who loved playing basketball, volleyball, and softball. She had an enduring love for classic rock ’n’ roll, always keeping a sharp eye on the latest trends in pop culture. During the summer, there was nowhere she’d rather be than lounging by her apartment building pool, basking in the sun and kibitzing with neighbors and lifelong friends.

Above all, Phyllis was known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. She was a natural storyteller whose funny takes on life’s everyday moments brought laughter and joy to every family gathering and friendly get-together.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lilyan and Benjamin Lobenberg. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her loving brother, David, and his wife, Carolyn; her devoted nephew, Jeremy; her devoted niece, Dana; as well as many dear friends and neighbors.
