It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Martin Carus just shy of his 81st birthday. Martin was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 55 years, Rochelle Carus. The best dad a kid could ever dream of, Martin is survived by his children, David Carus and daughter in law, Ilona Carus, as well as Jaclyn O’Donnell and son in law Jeremey O’Donnell.

Martin was born in Brooklyn, New York, the second son of Jack and Rose Carus and younger brother to Alan Carus. He is a cherished Uncle, Great Uncle, cousin and an amazing friend to so many. He worked for the state of NY as Chief of the Life Bureau for many years before retiring, and then worked as Senior State Relations Officer for AIG for 15 more years. His impact in that industry will live on and remain immeasurable. Everyone knows Marty Carus.

A lifelong baseball fanatic, he loved the Mets but always told stories about going to Ebbets Field. He loved old movies, Seinfeld, chocolate, spending time in Florida, getting his name printed in the NY Post with all of his insightful comments, and most importantly making everyone laugh. He was extremely generous, giving to many important causes and sharing with his family. He told the best stories and anyone who got to know him, couldn’t help but love him.

The world will never be the same. Without exaggeration, it is for certain there is now a hole in the universe. They truly broke the mold when they made our father. Rest peacefully Daddy, you will always be in your children’s hearts.
